Wooden Goddesses
of Rural India

This book attempts to discover some of the secrets and some origins of these little known objects that are the Indian wooden statuettes from villages scattered in the Indian subcontinent.
To whom did these statuettes belong? Are they linked to religious or ritual practices? From which regions in India could they come? These are all questions that the book wishes to address.
It contains more than 170 pages, more than 70 illustrations, field photos, art images and old photographs. More than 110 statuettes are reproduced in color.
Forewords by Marc Petit and Chantal Detcherry, writers and collectors.
